Leg health in the workplace – top tips for adapting your work routine

For a large part of the population the journey to work is spent sitting, or even standing. This puts a lot of pressure on your legs, especially as your journey is followed by a further eight hours at work, sitting at a computer or standing.

However there are some steps that you can take to give your legs a helping hand.

During work time, consider the following:

  • Remember to move around at least once every hour

  • For people who spend a lot of time sitting, either at a desk or commuting, make sure you do a few seated leg stretches (click here for sitting exercises)

  • For people who spend hours standing as part of their work, take the time to do a few standing leg stretches (click here for standing exercises)

  • Choose comfortable clothes and shoes that are not too tight and allow plenty of movement

  • Think about using individually tailored compression stockings if you already have varicose veins

  • To help treat or prevent that heavy, tired and achy leg feeling, medications/supplements containing natural ingredients such as bio-active flaven from red vine leafes, aescin from horse chestnut seed extract or ruscogenins from butcher's broom rootstock extract can be very effective.
