Why leg health is important

Legs are amazing

You may not realize it, but your legs work hard, carrying you around from A to B. While muscles and bones keep the body upright and propel it forward, it is the steady pumping of blood that helps keep legs healthy. Did you know that in just one day, an average heart pumps enough blood around the body to fill 288 five-gallon cans (approx. 5450 litres)!

Since legs are situated furthest away from and below the heart, the blood in the legs must actually flow against gravity.

Some impressive leg facts:

  • Your thigh bone - the femur - is the longest bone in your body. It makes up almost one quarter of the body's total height

  • The longest female legs recorded in the world are 132 centimetres long and belong to Svetlana Pankranova, 196 centrimetres tall, from the Russia

  • The fastest legs in the world belong to American sprinter Justin Gatlin who holds the World record for the 100m sprint at a time of 9.76 seconds!

Legs are amazing and are revered as an attractive part of our body that we want to show off. Many women spend a lot of time shaving and caring for their legs to make them look good. But when it comes to looking after the overall health of our legs inside and out this often gets neglected.
